Remote vs. Hybrid Learning?

In August this was such a big question many parents had when it was time to send our children back to school. And it is becoming a question again as parents are being provided with the option again as we near trimester/semester changes in the school year. Some families don’t have much of a choice especially when medical issues are in play and the risk of that going against COVID isn’t even a question.

I am here to provide you with some guiding questions for this decision. You ultimately need to make what is the best decision for your family at the end of the day. And I believe that the time of remote learning from March until May and the start of this school year has provided you with the information that you need to make this decision.

Did your child do well with remote learning?

Some children just do better in the remote online environment. My daughter is one of them. I will be honest we fought it for years until we gave in. And you know what? After a brief adjustment period she was flourishing. She now in her second year of college and she has made the Honor Society. We were doing summer school for multiple classes every summer her first two years of high school. That girl is made for remote learning.

Some students are not and they need the assistance of a teacher during their day. They need someone telling them in person to turn in their assignments (preferably not blank) and to explain the assignments in more detail. They need accountability. If you send your child up to their room to work on their homework and you are getting notices from your child’s school that they are not turning anything in, they probably will not continue to do well in the remote environment.
